Without naming people for HIPAA privacy, we take a lot of people with more needs than just a ride to and from the Doctor's. Many times the appointment plus driving runs into lunch or dinner. Frequently we are faced with a customer that is hungry but has little to no $ to spend on food. When we spend $ on customers food it is very much appreciated. Some customers are barely making ends meet with SSI, SSD, Medi-cal or section 8 etc. They don't expect us to buy them food, but sometimes you have that sense of need and we try to accomodate. Here are some stories...
These 2 people are such kind hearted, sincere, loving people but down on their luck since they both are fighting illnesses that have compromised their ability to make a living outside Gov Assistance. One thing after another comes up and they do their best to pay bills on time, eat healthy, take vitamins and go to the Doctor for medical needs. As you know eating healthy & taking vitamins on a budget is almost impossible. Then a wrongful headache from years ago rears it's head and they were short several 100 $. They were not able to pay rent, and already short of $ for food, they scrimped even more. They were desperate and humble enough to ask for help. We did and were they ever grateful!
A young lady was kidnapped years ago and sexually molested and tortured and now has PTSD. She deals with her trauma through counseling 1-2 x per week along with other Dr appts. She hasn't been able to find a job or have the emotional ability to keep a job. She was able to get disability only after 3 years of struggling and living with other people that continued to abuse her until she could finally get section 8. The tiny studio has rats and mold and she is suffering more health issues due to this. However, she feels it is better than being mistreated sexually so she stays in the rat infested S8. No she doesn't have $ for lunch.
A mother and daughter living in Roseville have had mold exposure and the daughter has severe mold exposure respiratory symptom illnesses. She wears a mask everywhere she goes now. They are in Gov assisted living and they mother takes care of the daughter and are not able to afford to move out of the mold infested living. Yes the landlord has been made aware and cleanup has only been mediocre.
A middle aged man living in the country where he has grown up and has all his childhood memories and family sometimes cannot get a ride to dialysis. He has had to be taken by helicopter to the hospital 28x in the last 3 years. He lives in a very small house with his son who cannot drive him.
A local lady has been gold panning for 30+ years and had the good times and not so good times. She is in her mid 60's now and her body is warn out. She has arthritis all over, needs both hips replaced. She groans getting in and out of the car because of the pain. Yet she goes out of her way to open her Gov assisted living situation up to homeless people that need a shower and a Thanksgiving dinner. She asked if I could grab a few things from the store for her and a bicycle tube repair kit. Dropping it all off she asked how much she owed me and I said it was my gift to her and since she barely has $5 extra and still gives to the needy I felt this was a good use of my time and money to also help out, knowing it wasn't going to drugs or alcohol but paper plates, tube repair kit, plastic cups, bleach, disinfectant etc. These things are not at the food bank or donation places.
If you feel like helping us help those really in need, please get in touch. Thank you!
